As previously announced I will be doing workshops on Basic Elements on Saturday, January 14, and Intermediate Photoshop Saturday on Saturday, January 28. The GLPA Web pages for the workshops have been updated to show what I will be covering. The cost will be $50 for members and $75 for non-members. Sign up sheets are posted at the club. Space is limited to the first twenty people who sign-up and pay. Anyone who has signed up and not paid for the Basic Elements workshop by January 6 will forfeit their space to the next person on the alternates list. For the Intermediate Photoshop workshop the final date for payment is January 20.
If you plan on taking the Basic Elements workshop you should have at least Elements 8. I will be using Elements 9. Elements 10 is now out and available. For the Intermediate Photoshop workshop you should have at least CS4. I will be using CS5. Please keep in mind that even if you have an older version of the software and do not want to upgrade right now, you can still download the latest version as a thirty day free trial. My recommendation is that you wait until just after the New Year, so that the trial will cover the workshop you are taking.
Both workshops will start at 9 A.M. and run to 4 P.M. We will take a short break in the morning and the afternoon to let folks stretch, use the bathrooms, etc. We will also break for forty-five minutes for lunch at around noon. We are not planning on coordinating any meals or take out this time around. Our recommendation is that you bring your lunch. There is a sub shop just down the street for those that may want to go that route. We will have coffee and hot water available beginning with the morning break.
The cost will be $50 for members and $75 for non-members. Yes, they have gone up, but they are fund raisers for the club and they are still an excellent value even at the higher prices. Notes will again be provided in PDF form.Sign-up sheets will be posted at the club in early October or reply to the email address. If you respond to the email, be sure to give your name. Space is limited to the first 20 people who sign-up and pay. Anyone who has signed up and has not paid for the Basic Elements workshop by January 5th will forfeit their space to the next person on the alternates list. For the Intermediate Photoshop workshop the final date for payment is January 15th. If you plan on taking the Beginning Elements workshop you should have Elements 9. For the Intermediate Photoshop workshop you should have CS5. Remember, if you do not own these programs, you can down load a 30 day free trial from Adobe. Just be sure to wait until January, so that your trial copy will be active when you take the workshop.
Rick will also be looking for four to six “helpers” to walk the tables during the workshops and help the participants with questions or issues as we walk through the various examples. If you are interested in helping, please let him know which of the dates you would be available on.
BASIC ELEMENTS – Saturday, January 14
This workshop will be very similar to the one given in January 2011, however, the emphasis will shift to the three Editor modes and how to use the editors to fine tune your images. I will have information on the Organizer module in the notes, but we will only dip into that if we complete the material for the editors early.
INTERMEDIATE PHOTOSHOP – Saturday, January 28
This workshop will also cover the same basic ground as the January 2011 session, however, the emphasis will shift to a more in depth look at layers, masking, and how to use channels, layer blend modes, and layer blending in developing your images. We will also create several actions that you can use in your work to automate some of the steps in the work flow.
