Fundamentals Photo Group

Barbara Rozavsky, HonNEC, Group Leader

(available to members only)

Everyone gets started using a camera in a different way. Some have taken a photo course. Others are self-taught. We wind up with some gaps in our knowledge. Or we want to learn how to do something we’ve never tried before. Sometimes it helps to have some personal instruction time in a small group setting to help us or to share tips with each other. That’s what the Fundamentals Group hopes to do.

Note that our night to meet has changed. This year’s sessions will be in person on Thursday evenings—one each month—October through May, from 7:30–9:00 PM. Bring your camera and camera manual with you to help facilitate answers to your camera questions.

Continuing with last year’s format, there will be a designated type of photography to bring examples of every month. We will discuss the images as to what worked, what didn’t, and what techniques might improve the image for your next attempt. Then there will be some instruction about how to shoot the theme for the images due at the next meeting. We’re hoping that this type of structure will inspire you to get out and photograph and also learn some fundamental techniques along the way.

As always, questions are welcome—especially if submitted to me in advance so I have time to prepare some instructional materials if necessary. If your question is specific to your camera, make sure to let me know the make and model and bring your camera and instruction manual to the group meeting.

Right now, the only month that has a definite topic is the first one—October 8, 2026: Please send me an image or two that you took over the summer. I’m hoping that some of these images will utilize techniques you were (pardon the pun) exposed to last season. Include the data for the image (f/stop, shutter speed, ISO, lens you used) for each image. You can also add what you were trying to capture or convey in the scene. After we review your images, we can discuss what fundamental techniques would be useful for you moving forward.

Prior to each month’s session, please contact me with your questions at fundamentals@greaterlynnphoto.org
