"Use of Hue, Saturation & Luminosity to Enhance a 3 Dimensional Effect on a 2 Dimensional Medium"
by Ken Carlson, SPSA-MA
Monday, October 9, 7:30 PM

This one hour presentation of both lecture and examples will illustrate the how and why one might use one or more tools to enhance a sense of depth in photographs, either as a print or as a digital image. These tools (hue, saturation and luminosity) are basic parts of both Photoshop and Lightroom and can dramatically improve one’s images. Before and after images will be presented as well some step by step examples of how to use these tools. This lecture is a small but important part of a twelve hour course called Composition and Visual Design that has been presented to members at Greater Lynn for the last three years.

Ken began photography some thirty years ago in the film days, and then put the camera away as family matters began to interfere. In 2009, he took up photography again in a much more serious vein and switched entirely to digital.

He has been a member of Greater Lynn since 2011, sits on the Board of Directors, and has competed in our Masters Class for the last 3 years, both in print and projected images with an emphasis on Nature and Scenic. He also has quite a bit of experience in sports photography. For three years, he has taught a course on 'Composition and Visual Design' which is a 12 hour classroom and field workshop here, at Greater Lynn. The course will start in January and you can read all about it and register for it on the website under courses.

In 2016 he was awarded the second level (Silver) designation for Portfolios of Distinction by the PSA (the only one to achieve this in the print category) and his portfolio resides in the PSA Permanent Print Collection. In the recent 2017 PSA Newsletter contest his article published in the November 2016 issue of the Filter, won the 'Best Article Award' in the Opinion category titled 'Why do People Hate the Rule of Thirds'. It can be read online under Filter than click on November 2016 issue.

He has traveled extensively for his photography including trips to Italy, the Canadian Rockies, Churchill, Manitoba, Patagonia, Namibia, Scotland, the Bahamas, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and the Arizona desert. He has also made three trips to Iceland and to the Falkland Islands, as well as other interesting spots. Please visit his website to see more of his images. www.sleepydogphotography.com
