This teaching presentation is formatted to show you how to photograph those fleeting informal moments in a child’s life, without a studio or expensive studio lights.
br>Our speaker Paula Ferazzi Swift, M. Photog., CPP owner of Paula Swift Photography a Boston area portrait photographer, spent 10 years chasing fires and covering news assignments all over Central Massachusetts as a photojournalist at the Worcester Telegram & Gazette-1995-2005. She decided to leave photojournalism world while starting her family but wanted to continue her photography career, so decided to head down a new career path focusing on children and families using her skills as a news photographer.

Paula started a photography business where she could utilize her photojournalistic skills to photograph the relationship children shared in front of her cameras in a natural way. Capturing fleeting moments during a session- when a child thinks no one is watching, the hugs a parent shares with a shy child, or even a toddler running away from the camera giggling. Paula approaches her sessions just like a fire…ready to go at a moments notice, but in a stress-free way for her clients. She implements those skills in capturing beautiful, timeless and story-telling portraits.

Paula’s work has appeared in the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, Boston Globe, New York Times, LA Times, Esquire, Time, Newsweek and internationally via the Associated Press wire service. Three of Paula’s images were part of a Pulitzer nomination and finalist entry in 2000 in feature photography for the photography staff’s coverage of the deadly Worcester warehouse fire that took the lives of 6 firefighters in 1999.

In her portrait work she has won two Kodak Gallery, Hallmark Award, Photographic Degree of Excellence by PPAM, Loan and General Collections at IPC, 2014 Photographer of the Year bronze medalist at PPA’s IPC, and in February 2015 Paula received her Master of Photography at Imaging in Nashville and was also featured by CBS Boston as Boston's Best Family Photographer in 2015.

In September 2016, Paula’s book Storytelling Portrait Photography: How to Document the Lives of Children and Families was announced on Amazon for pre-orders. The book offers ideas for creating a strong and lasting client connection, eliciting memorable moments, finding storytelling locations, inspiring natural action and reactions, and capturing the inter-relationships between siblings and between children and their parents. The book will officially come out in February but can be ordered now. Please visit her website to see more of her work and a link to the new book. www.paulaswift.com
