"How to Produce a Member Showcase"
by Barbara Rozavsky, HonNEC & Gail Hansche-Godin, MNEC
Monday, November 24, 7:30 PM
Each year we offer an opportunity for members to experiment and show off their skills at putting together a projected image show set to music. This program has been a big success and previously a lot of members have stepped up to the challenge. This year the Members’ Showcase is scheduled for March 30, 2015. Each year’s programs have covered a wide range of both styles and subject matter. The more variety we have the better. We hope you will try your hand at creating a show.
This educational presentation by Gail and Barbara is a prelude to that night. They will help you all learn the quick and easy way to produce your own showcase. Then you can practice, sign up, and be one of the presenters on March 30. Barbara will cover all you need to know for a MAC and Gail will cover PC. Each will speak about one half hour. This program will provide an opportunity to increase your skills so you can put together your member showcase and then some additional shows for your family and friends and maybe become a camera club presenter.
Our chairman and coordinator for this function will be Marilyn Cloran, FPSA, MPSA, MNEC. She will put a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board at the club later in the year. You will need forty to sixty images on one theme and a piece of compatible music not more than five minutes in length.
The software Barbara prefers to use for creating photographic slideshows on the Mac is Fotomagico 4 by Boinx (boinx.com/fotomagico/). Her presentation will explain the stages, tools, and basic features of the app. Barbara will take you through her process of creating a slideshow and timing the images to the music. The presentation includes her workflow for bringing in images, adding music, choosing dissolve types, setting dissolve times, and building the final presentation.
Mini Slideshow Creation – P/C
Do you want to do more than show people a picture you took? Mini slideshows enable you to show a body of work instead of just one or two images. Music creates a setting and adds emotion to help you tell your story. This is a basic program to get you started in creating slideshows using your P/C and ProShow which is the software Gail prefers to use. Create a timeline from your images, choose some music, and combine them to create a mini-show.
Both of our speakers are members of GLPA. Barbara is a past president of GLPA and the New England Camera Club Council –NECCC- and has served as a presentation director of the Greater Lynn International Exhibition for more than twenty-five years. GLPA recognized Barbara’s contribution to the association by bestowing the association’s Honorary Life Vice President status in 2010. Along with lecturing and judging at other area camera clubs, Barbara teaches basic photography classes at North Shore Community College, which she has done for more than thirty years. She is currently the manager of copyediting and proofreading at a publishing services company in Boston
Gail is the current chairman of the GLPA Photo Course and past co-chairman of the NECCC annual photo conference held each July. She has been competing in photography competitions for twenty years and has won many awards. She presents multimedia programs both teaching and showcase, to a variety of audiences across New England. She routinely judges at the club, interclub, and international level. For the past six years, Gail has been running a nature photography summer day camp for young adults at Massachusetts Audubon.
