Our closing program of the month comes from GLPA member Melissa Fraser-Needle. Melissa leads our Smartphone Group and was married this past fall to Charles Needle, thus the name change. This is a new Smartphone presentation and we look forward to seeing more of her tips and tricks.

The best camera is the one you have with you. We will explore various ways to enhance your creativity using your Smartphone, the camera you always have with you. Using simple children’s toys, specialized shooting apps, and editing apps there are no limits to where your images can go. Come get inspired and learn how to use your Smartphone to unlock your creative side.

Melissa started her adventures in photography at the age of 11 when a walk through a photography gallery inspired her to take the family camera and try capturing images like the ones displayed. Upon seeing the developed film, her camera became a constant in her life, photographing everything at every opportunity. She received her first award in high school, then an award at the Boston Globe Art Show. Since that time, she has received multiple awards at various state fairs, camera club competitions and interclub competitions. Her work was featured in three juried published commercially available books: including Massachusetts; a Photographic Portrait and in and on the cover of Cape Cod Guide Magazine. In more recent years, she had been accepted into multiple juried art exhibitions displayed at the Cape Cod Art Association and the Cape Cod Cultural Center. She has photographed multiple weddings, birthday parties and social events such as MUSC graduation, Cancer Survivor Day, and SC Aquarium events. Her new passion with Smartphone photography has led her to teaching workshops at the NH Audubon Society, Greater Lynn Photographic Association, and the Middleton, MA Senior Center. She has also presented at various local camera clubs and the New England Camera Club Council Photography Conference.
