"NOTE DATE CHANGE-GLPA Summer Image Study Group"

After polling the membership by email, Rick found there was enough interest to hold a Summer Image Study Group once per month during June, July and August. After a very successful meeting in June attended by over 20 members, the next two dates have been selected for Monday July 20 and Monday August 17, 2026.

One of the questions that arose over the course of this past club season touched on the fact that there are many different image editors out there yet much of the discussion and commentary we get in tutorials and competition comments relates to the Adobe trio of Photoshop, Lightroom and Elements. More to the point, it was whether there was a way of looking at images from the perspective of what worked, and what might make the image more effective without citing this or that specific tool or process in one of those Adobe products. We are not seeking to replace the feedback members get in the special interest groups that are part of the regular club season.

The goal would be to help participants learn to analyze an image and identify potential adjustments to it that might make it a stronger image without delving into specific Adobe based adjustments.

There may be images in each session where Rick will walk through examples of how an image might be adjusted to achieve a certain result so that there is a common understanding of what a comment such as improve clarity looks like. However, the majority of the time will be a discussion of images submitted by the participants with the group providing feedback on what might make the images stronger for them.

This Is not about competition, so participants should feel free to submit images of subjects or styles they like to take to learn how viewers interact with those images. There will be no right or wrong but the expectation is that hearing the feedback from multiple sets of eyes will help all participants better understand what makes a subject, style, or treatment more effective for the typical viewer than an alternative.

This is open to all club members. You are welcome to attend whether you submit images or not. If you submitted images at the June meeting, please follow the same procedure for the July and August meetings.
